An Event - Real time messaging to tens to hundreds of thousands

An Event
Real time messaging to tens to hundreds of thousands

Corporate events are a way of connecting with staff and customers and reiterating the promises given and showing the proof that lies behind the surface. From product releases, internal and external learning to celebrations, events really are a a fun and exciting way to engage with real people.

The goal is always to find inspiring and new ways of presenting information to people. From ceiling to floor screens, live dancers, CRAZY aspect ratios, it takes a special kind of thinking to wrap your brain around all the ways to show off your event. With a background in on and off set VFX, I was wired to find solutions and create super fun ways to produce gold.

Here are some examples:

VMworld

Made at First Person

Working directly with VMware, First Person created a seriously one-off event. VMworld, outside, at night AT VMWARE!! From ideation and concept to stage design and management, we created an event that used all the restrictions of the pandemic to create a truly unique experience. The full hour long event video here.

VMworld Partnerships

Made at First Person

VMworld is VMware’s annual spectacular! First Person has partnered with Foghorn Creative and Jack Morton Worldwide to produce the 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 & 2019 VMworld main stage event graphics.  From motion capture shoots incorporating 6 dancers, 3 screens, motion graphics, 3d animations and motion capture for a live audience in 2014 to a curved floor and wall immersive screen at Caesars Palace Las Vegas in 2018, VMworld has been on of the most complex and fun projects I have ever had to work on. Every year it brings a new challenge and every year we deliver a true experience.

VMware RADIO (Research & Development Internal Offsite)

Made at First Person

VMware has grown from a company of 5 people in 1998, to a worldwide business with 20,000 staff, all while keeping innovation, research, and development at  the forefront of their culture. First Person’s challenge was to create opening videos for VMware’s annual Research and Development Internal Offsite (RADIO) event that would excite, engage and showcase the many achievements VMware has had over the years and show off the environment of innovation that VMware fosters.

2017 used abstracted clouds of points and webs describe large sets of interconnected data as galaxies, highlighting VMware’s growth and successes. We represented VMware's bold, big thinking for the future, and the interconnectivity between their ideas, while expressing limitless possibilities.

2019 used the stories of VMware’s staff and abstracted them to create fun and engaging animations. This piece is a rally cry to others to use their time at VMware to innovate!

Ebay Sellers Event

Made at First Person

First Person worked closely with Instinctif and eBay to incorporate the strategic business value and needs from Instinctif’s creative team with the animated and live action visuals for the event.  Our visuals helped Instinctif convey eBay’s reaffirmation of their commitment to their community of buyers and sellers  who are the foundations of the eBay platform.  We interviewed sellers and created visual stories that showed this commitment.

First Person delivered over 130 assets and the event went off without a hitch.  The day one opening video was the perfect intro for new CEO Devin Wenig’s keynote speech.  He received a standing ovation and the Instinctif and eBay teams couldn't have been happier.  The interviews made people laugh and consider new ways of using eBay while the graphics package gave information and made the brand come alive with movement.

It was another successful event, brought to life by Instinctif and First Person.

Palo Alto Networks RSA 2016 Bus Skins

Made at First Person for Palo Alto

During conferences at the Moscone Center, The First Person office is surrounded by shuttle buses shipping attendees all around the city.

2016’s RSA cryptography and information security-related conference was a special one for us as each member of 1P rushed around the busy sidewalks to see who would get the first photo of the Palo Alto Networks shuttle buses.

The reason… Well, that bus was covered with 1P thieves!

For the conference, we created a bus advertisement concept with Palo Alto that showed personifications of bugs, threats, and malware trying to break into the Palo Alto bus.

The depiction of our threats were rendered as life-sized people, and using compositing tricks, we made them really feel like they were trying to break into the Palo Alto secured shuttle bus.

At the First Person office, we set up a mini photography studio and our staff jumped at the chance to become thieves and threats. We shot the 1P actors on white and from multiple angles to make the characters look like they were hanging onto the bus.

After the shoot, we jumped straight onto our computers and started compositing the characters. We added Palo Alto’s branded symbols for malware, bugs and threats onto each character’s clothing, and worked out the best composition to really draw people’s attention to the scene.

With a short turn around, we were able to create all the sides of the bus and deliver them on time to the printers who set about putting the wraps on the bus.

The Palo Alto shuttle buses travelled around San Francisco for 4 days of the RSA conference.

It is always great when you see your work in physical form, but as First Person is very close to the Moscone Center, we were constantly bumping into the buses as they circled the city. It became a bit of a game to see who could snap the most photos of the buses.

The Palo Alto green made the buses unmissable and bystanders would make a double take as they drove by.

This was a great, fun project to work on with and for Palo Alto Networks.
