VMware and Vodafone partnered to realize what’s possible.

But what is possible? We expanded on today’s technology to look into London of the future and see how VMware’s tech and Vodafone’s low latency bandwidth could enable Charlotte’s day.

From studying at University, talking to her Mum, hanging with friends and even ordering her dinner, we see how VMware and Vodafone have powered the future.

With each vignette, we dive into the tech that is available today to create this magificent future. Now a few years in the future, many of these ideas are no longer pipe dreams, and that is because the creative was built on reality and understanding of tech.

A Day Made Possible by VMware x Vodafone

Although this is a “typical” day in the life of our student Charlotte, the interconnected technologies that empower her futuristic reality have a magical quality to our modern day eyes. This is an idyllic future that is nearly within reach, yet different enough to spark our imaginations.

It’s a celebration of casual aspects of life that often go unnoticed, similar to the stylistic approaches found in Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s films, like Amelie.

In this film, the student-of-tomorrow ventures out of class to explore the wonders of her new city. In a short period of time, we witness a series of small magical moments that are made possible by Vodafone’s services and connected resources paired with VMware’s leading security and speed.

TECH EXPLAINERS

Tech Explainers are validations of the technology, from a user perspective and future advances in Cloud, Mobility, Networking and Security made possible by VMware.

They show how the products of today can enable this future, showing our audience that this isnt some far of make believe, this is at the tip of their fingertips.

Tech Explainer Story Descriptions

Cloud

The education sector is constantly evolving and students are craving new ways to learn. They want access to information wherever, whenever.

Charlotte has a practical class with a Professor half way around the world. This class would normally be a huge drain on bandwidth, storage and come with security risks, but with control and management from VMware, the university can be confident they are delivering the highest performance from Edge to Cloud.

Our story then explains the benefits of the cloud and shows the viewer how the benefits are applicable to other industries like banking and healthcare.

We return to see Charlotte, who is using this low latency, highly reliable connection to give her access to an entire network of world class teachers and lessons at their fingertips.

Mobility

The world of the future will be more connected, both in a technological and human sense. With greater accessibility to explore different parts of the world, people from all walks of life will need new technology to help enable communication and the ability to work wherever they need.

This story would start in our future Tea House, one of many in a franchise. This learning experience for Charlotte is backed by technology enabled by the industry leaders in virtualization, VMware.

Our story shifts from Charlotte to the Tea House franchise. When opened, each new Tea House franchise is connected to head office in moments, giving them access to critical business assets securely. Their employees can easily manage the day to day from the office or at home.

The physical network infrastructure is virtualized so networks can be created to meet different needs. Connecting to the head office network, making a virtual local network and a secure network for customers to connect to the internet without impacting the security of all the other franchises on the network.

Our story would end on the end of Charlotte’s conversation. She is oblivious to the innovative technology that has brought her this fun and engaging interaction with her friend.

Network

In a mobile world, the sky is the limit… literally! In the future, you will be able to choose some dumplings on the go and have them delivered to your door.

But what is the underlying network connections that create this seamless customer experience.

The delivery app accesses real time information from restaurants all over the city and scales up to handle spikes in users at dinner time, while scaling down after 2am while everyone is asleep, delivering OPEX savings.

We then move to the secure mobile networks that give the drones all the information the need to navigate the night sky. The drones are on reliable and low latency networks. VMware’s technology knows the drones are critical and high bandwidth devices. The network automatically gives the drone all the bandwidth it needs to leverage real time information to

Security

A fully driverless, autonomous car needs the latest in security, accessibility to real time information in the cloud and the ability to connect anywhere.

The car of the future leverages the cloud, machine learning, artificial intelligence and edge technology to create safe driving experiences that are available whenever you are. But what is the good of break through tech if it isn’t secure?

Our story takes us through the optimal security requirements of a system that both needs to be secure, and have access to real time information, networks and public and private data.

The story explains security through the eye of real time data needs like updated maps, traffic conditions and connections to autonomous automobiles nearby for information. It also dives into the security needs for the backend technology that keeps the car running, like software and firmware updates and the different security challenges faced.

In a world that is so connected, it is even more imperative to know you are secure.
