Square helps businesses accept every way their customers want to pay. To do this, Square releases valuable new payment products, often weekly, on a global scale, so they needed an agile marketing partner they could trust to create content at the speed of production.

The goal was to design a system that would create a world that would unify the multiple apps and offerings while giving each app the customized feel and style to reach its audience.

By designing a world of customer use cases and an under the surface (behind the curtain) world, we were able to rapidly add to the ever-expanding library of assets to create valuable content.


SDK & API Awareness Campaign


Square is known for being the company that lets business use their little white reader to take card payments, but they are so much more than that.

Square’s SDK release was a call out to a new type of customer.  Developers and engineers who can use Square SDK to help their backend payments sing. First Person created an “upside down” world that showed the power of what’s inside the little white reader.

Continuing the SDK series, Square’s In-App & Omnichannel videos were to show the extension and reach of the developer environment. To show this extension, we used the square logo as a bridge to the different uses and backend functionality - communicating that Square is the heart of the audience’s payment environment.

Omnichannel mCommerce Social Awareness Campaign


After the success of the In-App video campaign, we created a set of social media friendly awareness videos for Square’s new Omnichannel (mCommerce) offering.


Appointments, Invoices & Installments Video Campaigns


First Person worked with the Square team to create a look and feel for their Appointments app video. Being a new app, First Person worked to create a world that could quickly get the key features of the app across to audiences of multiple languages. The Appointments video was very well received and brought Square to a whole new audience.

As part of our video campaigns, we also localized each video to the Japanese, Spanish & French Canadian, and multiple English accents and currencies including, USA, Australia, UK & Canada.


Square Gift Cards


Video Campaign

Square Gift Cards brought the UI front and center to create a whole new play on the Square world. With more color and app user focus this video campaign showed users the how and why of Square Gift Cards


Point of Sale Banner Ad Campaign


For Square’s Point of Sale Banner Campaign we converted the iconic Square hardware and abstracted them to their smallest and most recognizable to create simple yet effective ads for social media.
